BUILDING SELF ESTEEM - CARICATURE YOUR LIFE
PART 1 - CARICATURE YOUR LIFE
I’m so glad you’re reading this. After many years of leading all
sorts of different teams; teams of volunteers and employees; motivated
and unmotivated; demonstrative and reserved; I have always taken a
special interest in those who wanted to believe they could be so much
more, but just didn’t think enough of themselves to get there.
Over the years of leading, mentoring and coaching
these colleagues I have been able to help many reach the potential we
all knew they had.
Life is too short to spend it feeling you are less than you want to
be. Whether you simply feel that life has more for you – you can
almost see it, feel it, touch it – there is a glass ceiling stopping
you from really getting hold of it. Or maybe you know you have low
self-esteem and need to get a truer perspective of yourself. Low
self-esteem seems to be on the increase. Of course it’s something
people have faced since the dawn of time – but it seems to be more
common and more profound in the past 40-50 years.
We live in a comparison culture. We are consistently compared with
others, whether Hollywood stars, athletes, successful business people,
or our partners ex!! For many, life has become like being forced into
competing in a non-stop beauty or talent pageant. Each person being
measured and critiqued against a universally accepted set of criteria
– and not being seen for the extraordinary, unique character they are.
Well, I’m privileged to go on this journey of uncovering your
character with you.
In this ebook I have outlined some of the truths and exercises I use
and share when coaching people who are struggling with low
self-esteem.
As with every self-development process, it can only be as productive
as you make it. Whatever you put in, it will return to you. I’m simply
here to help guide YOU on your own special journey. “Low self-esteem is like driving through life
with your hand-break on.”
Maxwell Maltz
Whether you are an entrepreneur, corporate CEO, student, musician, mum
or looking for work and direction – everyone knows what low-self
esteem feels like. But do we know what it means?
WHY CARICATURES?
When most people think of a caricature their mind goes to street
artists sitting on small chairs, sketching customers as cartoons in
charcoal.
Whether humorous or not, a caricature is ‘a representation in which
the subject's distinctive features are exaggerated’.
We are using the analogy of a caricature here for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, it is a physical and visual demonstration to a predominantly
internal process we are going to go through; it just helps make it as
‘real’ as it can be to us. Secondly caricatures are creative – and
what you are going to do is assess who you ‘think’ you are in certain
situations and then create yourself as a caricature. This is not about
pretending to be someone else or being untrue to who you are. We are
going to see the distinctive elements of who you are and then
exaggerate them to produce a positive outcome.
For me caricatures are a symbol of all we can be – a gloriously,
emphasized representation of YOU – fully recognizable and yet
completely different!! How does that sound?
Why not have your own caricature created
here. It’s great value, quick
and a great way to start our journey together...
