BUILDING SELF ESTEEM - CARICATURE YOUR LIFE
PART 4 - DISTINCTIVE FEATURES
Having had a good look in the mirror – we have seen, considered and
amended our belief systems. Now it’s time to see what you are and do
that is positively distinctive and unique.
Isn’t it true that there are certain distinguishing features on your
face? I can guarantee that you do not see your face as others do.
Let’s face it – you’ve been looking at it all your life. You’ve seen
every spot, bad hair day, bloodshot eye and stray hair. The truth is
no-one else has. When you meet someone new, they see your face for
what it is – a fresh, new front door to your soul (mind, will and
emotions).
Why is the cosmetic surgery such a booming business?
Because people want to change what they have – they either want to
play down features they’re not happy with or augment others (often to
detract from something else).
Of course there are the compulsive changers. We all know of the people
who keep changing a feature of their face, never happy, never content,
and never satisfied. Even the most glamorous of models and stars are
unhappy with something – even if it’s their feet!!
Now let’s look in your ‘soul mirror’, let’s see what you have –
strengths, weaknesses, beauty. Let’s create a caricature of you –
let’s choose some distinctive features to draw attention to.
What is distinctive about you?
Ask yourself the following three questions. Be honest – this is not a
time for false humility.
1. If you were an animal – what would it be?_______________
List five adjectives to describe your animal…
1) __________________________________
2) __________________________________
3) __________________________________
4) __________________________________
5) __________________________________
2. If you were a car - what would it be? __________________
List five adjectives to describe your car…
1) __________________________________
2) __________________________________
3) __________________________________
4) __________________________________
5) __________________________________
3. If you were a color – what would it be? ________________
List five adjectives to describe your color
1) ___________________________________
2) __________________________________
3) __________________________________
4) __________________________________
5) ___________________________________
Now – ask at least one person in the following groups the same
questions about you.
- A member of your family,
- A friend
- A work colleague
Generally speaking the description of the animal describes how you are
as a person, the car describes how you behave and the color describes
the feelings you create.
You should now have a glorious list of words that describe the person
in the mirror.
Are the lists drastically different? Do people see you differently?
Next we are going to choose which ones go in your internal caricature
and then in true cartoon style disproportionately accentuate them for
effect.
